DJ Cleo: I deserve the award

Reports said that Limpopo boy, DJ Cleo of Will of Steel productions is to fight the South African Music Awards (SAMA) outcomes.

The awards ceremony, which took place on the 3rd of May 2008 at Sun City Superbowl, have been heavily criticised amid Cleo not winning the Record of the Year Award (formerly known as Song of the Year). The award went to Mpumalanga with DJ’ S’dunkero for his Maputo Song.
But critics and Cleo himself, according to reports, are not down with this move. This is because the Record Industry of South Africa (RISA), who organised the awards, swapped the voting letters for Cleo and S’dunkero- “at the eleventh hour” and did not notify the public about the change up until the day of the awards.
Now Cleo says he believes if this could not have happened he would have walked away with the only awards, in the SAMAs, voted for by the public.

Last week Saturday Star reported that Cleo intended contesting the outcome of the awards for the MTN Record of the Year Award. But contrary to this Cleo had said that he had made peace with the awards, during a radio interview. He also said that he acknowledged that Sdunkero won the award.

Recent reports suggest that DJ Cleo believes that many people voted for Sdunkero thinking that they were voting for him.

RISA blames the SABC for this particular quandary. "We as the SABC is not prepaid to shoulder the blame," SABC1's Phillip Mabitsela is reported to be saying the awards are the responsibility of RISA “it just doesn't make sense that we should be responsible for telling the artists the voting system had changed.”

If only RISA had its house in order none of these could have happened.

SAMAs 2008

This years South African Music Awards (SAMA) are said to have been a success. Even though seniorjournalism.com was not there to cover the event (please invite us next time) we are told by those who were there that it was an event to die for, it’s a shame we had to watch it on TV.

What was Kabelo Mabalane thinking when he, “jokingly”, lashed at the media? The sad part of it is that this guy has attracted back a ‘dark’ force which once haunted him for years.
After the “recovering drug addict …” remarks, Kabelo has earned back this tag, Shame! Next time respect the media Kabelo; remember these are the guys that played a big part in making you a star- they gave you the publicity you needed when you were still emerging with TKZee, and even when you went solo, of woe?

It was nice looking at Danny K dancing to HHP’s Music and Lights. You rock Danny boy!

And oh! Before I forget! It was very nice of Mahoota to dedicate the performance of Phuligolo to MaWillies -may his soul rest in peace.
Gunman, when are you dropping your own album?

Bricks mabrigado o ya roka son, o inja (you are the dog)!

Tasha Baxter, you rock girl!
